The Search function can search for any features that match specific search text, or that are at a specific location, in any layer that is stored in a local (offline) data store (it does not search online services).

Search for Feature(s) by Text

  • Tap the Search button (top toolbar) in the main Map View

    • The search bar will appear
  • Enter the search text into the search field within the search bar
    • Search will be performed when text entry stops or pauses
    • A list of search results (if any) will be displayed below the search bar
    • The search results will be grouped according to which layer the features were found in

Note that the first field in the layer will be displayed as the heading of each search result, and other fields (as many as fit) will be displayed below the header for each result.

Change Search Scope for Text Search

The search scope (All Layers, Visible Layers, Single Layer – All Fields, Single Layer – Single Field) can be changed either before or after the search text is entered.

  • Tap on one of the search scopes in the search bar:
    • All Layers – all layers in offline data stores in the Layers Library will be included in the search
    • Visible Layers – only the layers which are currently visible on the map will be included in the search
    • Single Layer – search only one specific layer
      • A dialogue window will appear in which the desired layer should be selected
      • Optionally, select a single field to search in only one of the selected layer’s fields (or select ALL FIELDS to search in all fields in the selected layer)

Search for Feature(s) by Location

  • Press-and-hold on the map view at the location for which features should be found.
    • A list of search results (if any) will be displayed below the search bar
    • The search results will be grouped according to which layer the features were found in

Change Search Scope for Location Search

  • Tap on one of the search scopes in the search bar:
    • Visible Layers – only the layers which are currently visible on the map will be included in the search
    • All Layers – all layers in offline data stores in the Layers Library will be included in the search

Show Found Feature on Map

  • Tap the found feature in the search results list to pan the map to that location and display the geometry of the feature on the map.

Found Feature Actions Menu

Various operations can be performed on a found feature using the menu which is invoked by the ‘•••’ button next to that search result feature.

  • Tap the ‘•••‘ button next to a feature to display a menu of actions that can be performed for that feature
  • Tap one of the options to perform an operation as explained for each option below:
    • Show Feature on Map

      • This action does the same thing as tapping elsewhere on the found feature row, and pans the map to that location and places a marker on that location
    • Add Layer to Map

      • Add this feature’s entire layer to the map (including this feature and all other features in the layer)
    • Show in ‘Maps’ App

      • Switch to the ‘Maps’ app with the location of the feature marked
        • Optionally use the ‘Maps’ app’s features to show directions or start a route to the location
    • View/Edit Attributes

      • Open the feature detail view to peruse all of the features attribute values, or edit attribute value(s)
    • Move Feature

      • Either
        • Tap “Device Location” button to move the feature to the current location of the device
      • OR
        • Tap/drag the target to a new location on the map to move the feature to that location
        • Tap ‘OK’ when done
    • Delete Feature

      • Permanently delete the feature from its layer and data store (as well as from the map and from the search results)
        • Same as swipe left on the feature

Delete Feature

  • Swipe left on a found feature row to permanently delete the feature from its layer and data store (as well as from the map and from the search results)
